"Bachelor Party 2" surprisingly funny

Upon first glance, the packaging of "Bachelor Party 2: The Last Temptation" leads the viewer to believe he or she is to receive a cinematic experience about as pleasurable as washing your eyes with bleach. And indeed, if it were what this reviewer expected, bleach would not have been caustic enough to purge the horror. However, "Bachelor Party 2" delivered an experience with non-stop laughs on all levels of comedy.

The movie has all the makings of a standard guy-movie: main character is a laid-back fun-loving guy who has fallen in love. Along with his coterie of varied friends fitting various archetypes (the bitter multiple-divorcee, the self-hating Jewish guy, and the sex addicted slob), he goes to Miami for one last party before tying the knot.

To continue the stereotypical guy-movie, there's the arrogant character, who is extremely spoiled, highly uptight and hates the laid-back protagonist. The entire trip is revealed early as our antagonist's evil plot to prevent the main character from marrying his sister and thus securing his position within his father's company.

Aside from the bare basics of the formulaic plot, the story deviates wildly in key areas to keep it fresh. Also, the writers managed to weave situational comedy that played on multiple levels as well as non-stop verbal humor. As is standard for a regular "guy" movie, there is plenty of juvenile humor, but even this plays much better than its most recent genre counterparts, such as "Beta House."

The best part of the movie, though, lies in its lack of loose ends. As well, they use everything to comedic advantage, which was the most impressive feature of this film; they used every character, even ancillary characters from throwaway scenes, to increase comedic value.

The ending surprised this reviewer, which is difficult in a day and age where the formula is so easy to follow. Don't judge this movie by its cover, check it out.
