The University of West Georgia and the Center for African American Male Research, Success, and Leadership will host its second Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Distinguished Lecture Series with television star Kwame Jackson at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 12, in the Campus Center.
Jackson is a successful businessman best known for his appearance on "The Apprentice" in 2004.
He will bring the no nonsense attitude and his leadership skills that made him stand out on the prime time show to West Georgia for a lively 90 minute lecture.
Jackson earned his MBA at Harvard University and now works as an investment manager on Wall Street for Goldman Sachs.
He was listed in People magazine as one of America's 50 Most Beautiful People for 2004 and has been showcased and quoted in Fortune, Money, Entrepreneur, Black Enterprise, Vanity Fair, The Washington Post, New York Times and The Wall Street Journal.
Each month, more than 40,000 people visit his website, http://www.kwamejackson.com.
Dr. Said Sewell, associate professor of political science, is the director of the CAMMRSL, and coordinates the lecture series.
"It is an honor to have such a positive African American male at this level in his career come and share some of his secrets to success with us," said Sewell. "I truly feel that Kwame Jackson will greatly motivate West Georgia."
In addition to the lecture series, the center sponsors five university initiatives: the W.E.B Dubois Academic Institute, the Benjamin E. Mays Faculty/Student Luncheon, the Black Males With Initiative Program, The Bayard Rustin Community Service Program and The African American Male Learning Community.
The center's goal is to implement programs that help African American males have a successful transition to higher education institutions.
The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Distinguish Lecture Series is a free campus event and will take place in the ballroom of the Campus Center at UWG. For more information, call (678) 839-4997.
