October 2, 3:50 a.m. - UWG Police on patrol noticed a vehicle in the rear parking lot of Townsend with its lights on and a white male shouting at it. Officers noticed that the male had an odor of alcohol and when asked how much he'd had to drink, he commented that he'd had a few beers around 1 am. Police made contact with the driver of the vehicle, a female who also had an odor of alcohol on her. When asked how much she had to drink, she said she couldn't remember but that she'd had it at a Greek social earlier that evening. Both subjects were underage and consented to an alco-sensor test, to which the female subject tested positive. Police released the male and took the female into custody after determining that the argument was verbal and not physical.
October 3, 1:30 am- UWG Police stopped a vehicle seen with a headlight out and expired tag sticker, and upon approaching the vehicle detected an odor of alcohol coming from the interior. Officers spoke to the driver who consented to and passed field sobriety. Police then spoke with the passengers of the vehicle, all of which were under 21. All tested positive for alcohol on the portable sensor and received citations for consumption underage; the driver was cited for the headlight and all were released.
October 3, 1:45 a.m. - UWG Police stopped a Red Jeep Cherokee with a white male hanging out the passenger side door, kicking his leg on the road as the vehicle was in motion. Upon making contact with the driver, he denied having had anything to drink. Upon questioning the two passengers, they admitted to having consumed alcohol. They consented to alco-sensor test and tested positive. Being underage, they were placed under arrest and cited for consumption underage.
October 16, 2:00 a.m. - UWG Police responded to a call in reference to a physical disturbance at Arbor View Apartments. Upon arriving, police determined the dispute to revolve around a complaint of loud noise in the common area of the apartment, which became physical. Both participants in the fray were arrested and taken to the county jail.
October 16, 12:25 p.m. - UWG Police observed a vehicle with a drive-out tag from a dealership traveling on West Georgia Drive. An officer familiar with the vehicle had recognized it and its driver, and decided to stop it. Previously, the vehicle had been impounded due to an obscured VIN number with no registration paperwork. Once stopped, the driver admitted to police that a friend of his was a car dealer and had been giving him drive-out tags so he could continue to change the date and not get it registered. He claimed he could not pass emissions testing with the vehicle and was on his way to sell it. Police asked for the driver's ID and proof of insurance. The driver did not have his ID, and police then asked him to write down his information, which did not come up in the computer. Officers tried to check the name in University records to no avail. Parking Services showed the vehicle registered under a false tag number; the tag number came up connected to a vehicle registered in Fulton County, owned by a church with a Salt Lake City, Utah address. Police then took the driver into custody and explained it was due to being an unlicensed driver and suspicion of giving false identification information. The driver's vehicle was impounded and the driver was taken to the Carroll County Jail, where police were able to identify the driver, who admitted to lying about his identity. The driver was charged with Improper Drive-Out Tag, No Tag, Driving on a Suspended License, Misdemeanor False Statements, and Felony False Statements.
October 18, 2:58 a.m. - UWG Police stopped a vehicle in excess of the speed limit on Maple street after attempting to stop the vehicle for half a mile. UWG Police requested assistance from Carrollton Police due to the distance traveled during the pursuit. Police, upon making contact with the driver, detected a strong odor of alcohol. The driver was asked to exit the vehicle and was unsteady on his feet. The driver additionally declined alco-sensor testing and field sobriety testing. Due to his condition and how he had been driving, UWG Police decided to arrest the driver for driving while impaired. He continued to refuse testing even when informed of Implied Consent laws, his license was taken into possession by the officer and he was turned over to the County Jail.
October 19, 12:34 a.m. - UWG Police spotted a male crossing through Lot 3, who fled upon spotting the officer. Despite the officer identifying himself as police, the subject continued to move away, into the lobby of Downs Hall. The officer caught up to the subject in the lobby and detected a strong odor of alcohol on his person, as well as bloodshot eyes. Upon being questioned about why he ran, he said that he had gotten in trouble before for drinking in Gainesville and was scared of the police. When asked how many drinks he'd consumed, he stated that he'd had a few. When asked about who had provided the alcohol, he stated that he was a Kappa Alpha and that he had gotten the alcohol at the Kappa Alpha house. The subject was then tested for alcohol on the portable sensor and tested high enough that officers transported him to Tanner Medical's ER. Upon receiving medical clearance, he was taken to the county jail. Officers did not cite him for attempting to elude police.
October 19, 9:00 a.m. - UWG Police located a large amount of trash in the yards of the Alpha Tau Omega, Pi Kappa Phi, Chi Phi, Kappa Sigma and Kappa Alpha houses along Maple Street. The Kappa Alpha house had a large number of broken beer bottles in its yard.
October 24, 12:30 a.m. - UWG Police responded to a fire alarm at Watson Hall. Upon responding to the specific room, police heard things being moved around the room and the sound of blinds opening while a female voice shouted for police to wait while she put on clothing. After being questioned, a resident of the room admitted to smoking marijuana and that she'd tossed her baggy out the window. The resident was placed under arrest for a violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act.
October 25, 2:51 a.m. - UWG Police performing a security check of Downs Hall smelled marijuana burning in the D-Wing stairwell. Upon locating the room from which the smell was coming, police questioned the residents who consented to a search. During the search, police found four nickel bags of marijuana and one of the residents claimed ownership. Upon being given notice of his Miranda rights, the resident stated that he'd bought them off-campus for $20. The resident was then placed under arrest and taken to the county jail.
