Win at Olympics

The 21st Winter Olympiad began this past Friday, and the United States is currently leading in the overall medal count, with four total medals, having won a single gold medal, single silver and two bronzes.

The nearest competitors behind the US are South Korea and France, each with two medals; South Korea has one gold and one silver medal, and France with a gold medal and a bronze.

The United States’ single gold medal so far was earned by Hannah Kearney in the Ladies Moguls, taking a score of 26.63.  Behind her were Canada’s Jennifer Heil, with a score of 25.69 and fellow American Shannon Bahrke taking a bronze with a score of 25.43.

The other two medals for the US came from the Men’s 1500m Speed Skating competition; a silver medal was taken by Apolo Ohno, who trailed South Korea’s Jung-su Lee’s 2:10.949 time with 2:11.072.  Fellow American J.R. Celski followed Ohno with 2:12.460.

With only three days in, there is still a great deal of time left for some serious action; only 5 events have completed, out of the total of 86 to be held before the end on the 28th.
