The University of West Georgia’s International Night is a community-wide event that promotes cultural diversity, understanding, exchange, information, education and fun. Sponsored by the International Student Club, the event invites UWG students and members of the community to partake in food and entertainment from as many as 30 different countries.

“My favorite part of International Night would have to be seeing a lot of happy people in the same room [and] experiencing the joy of other cultures,” said graduate assistant and past International Student Club president Bayo Onabule.

International Night will consist of international cuisines, exhibits, dancing, singing and a fashion show displaying clothing from around the world. Some students have spent the past year planning and perfecting their contributions.

The International Student Club has been thrown International Night for almost three decades. It began over 29 years ago in the UCC, as a way for students to witness the different cultures of the many international students attending UWG. Over the years, the event has grown in capacity, and in order to accommodate the growing number of attendees, International Night was moved from the UCC to the Food Services Building (Z-6). This year, the Z-6 will be closing at 6:30 p.m. to allow students to prepare for the festivities.

The event is always held on a Thursday night, within the first six to seven weeks after the start of the spring semester. Due to the massive amounts of preparation International Night requires, as soon as the event is over, preparation for the next year’s event begins.

Due to the planning that the night requires, as soon as this year’s event is over, preparation for next year’s event will begin.

International Night will be held this year in the Z-6 on Feb. 4 at 7 p.m. To purchase tickets, visit the International Services and Programs Office at Row Hall in Room 228. Admission is $5 for UWG students with an ID, $7 for children under 12 and $8 for adults.
