Road to Stadium

Upon completion of the new Athletic Complex, the University of West Georgia decided to build a road that leads to the stadium directly from the university. The road is approximately 3,385 feet long and can be found between The Coliseum and the Z-6, off of West Georgia Drive.

Since this project was started in June of 2009, the university was faced with serious weather conditions that delayed the original scheduled completion date of July 2010. The goal was to have the road finished and accessible to students, faculty and staff before the upcoming fall semester.

The construction of the new road cost approximately $2.7 million. A bridge also needs to be constructed, but its completion has also been delayed, due to weather conditions.

With the road under construction, the relocation of the shuttle pick-ups and drop-offs are still pending. Many students are excited about the progress of the new road.

“This new road is a great idea, because I live on-campus,” said sophomore Alexis Fontaine. “It’s a shorter route to get there, rather than driving past River Place and the Grove.”

“This new road will add even more beauty to the West Georgia campus,” said senior Alisha Wood.

The road also means good news for students.

“The road will eventually lead to additional parking if funds are permitted,” said Lynn Agan of Campus Planning and Development.

The creation of the new road has several advantages. It allows easier access to the stadium from the university to students that live on-campus and is less than three-fourths of a mile long. The road has no red lights and unrelated traffic, but may increase the traffic in that area of the campus.
