The UWG Wolves were out in full force this past week, with action in football, men’s golf and cross-country, and women’s volleyball and soccer.
The UWG men’s golf team went to the Flagler Invitational in Saint Augustine, Fla. on Sunday and Monday, and took 12th place with three players under par. They head to Columbus next week for the AFLAC Invitational.
On Tuesday, the Wolves volleyball team came from behind to grab a 3-2 win over Albany State. The Albany State Lady Rams took an early lead, winning the first set 25-23 and the second set 26-24. The Wolves stormed back, however, taking three sets in a row, winning 26-24, 25-23 and won the match with the largest margin in the final set, 15-10.
Also on Tuesday, the Wolves soccer team took to the field to face off at Montevallo, falling 2-1 after a tight game that was stuck in stalemate until a 78th minute goal off a free kick gave the Montevallo Falcons the win.
The Wolves soccer team recovered from the loss on Friday shutting out Delta State 1-0 at Delta Field. Junior midfielder Tatiana Pedrosa scored the lone goal, her first at UWG. The win brings the Wolves to 3-7 for the year and 1-0 in conference play.
The UWG football team headed out to Arkansas on Saturday to battle the Henderson State Reddies. The Wolves were shut out, falling 54-0. They return to University Stadium this Thursday to take on Arkansas-Monticello in a televised game as part of the GSC Game of the Week on CSS.
Both men and women cross-country teams took their first win of the year at the Maryville Invitational Saturday morning. The men’s team finished with three of their runners in the top five; freshman runner Robert Fenesterer took first place, with fellow freshman Jake Hudson right behind him in second and senior Shawn Matthews in fourth.
On the women’s team, junior Megan Jacobs took third place and sophomore Lindsay Ebert took fifth. Both teams will be running again in over a week at the Oglethorpe Invitational in Atlanta on October 17th.
